I’m watching a longtime guilty-pleasure movie of mne on TV right now – Grease 2. It’s really so bad that it’s good. If you haven’t seen it, look, now you can see the whole film on Hulu! Don’t get me wrong – it’s incredibly cheesy and badly acted…but fun. Features a super-young, super-hot Michelle Pfeiffer, the supposed next-big-thing of the early 80s – Maxwell Caulfield – and, randomly, Lorna Luft (Judy Garland’s other daughter). Oh, and I certainly can’t leave Adrian Zmed out.
What have I been doing lately? Not posting on here, apparently. Been getting my ass kicked at work but making money in the process so that’s all good. I haven’t taken any outfit pictures in a while – I should do that. I finished school last week – can’t remember if I mentioned that. Well, at least until I start my Masters of Public Health in August. So I’ve been relaxing some, even though I’m still doing some data input and ongoing research over the summer.
I took a shower today and somehow forgot to wash my hair – just rinsed it and then rinsed it again. Didn’t even realize it until later. W.T.F.
I made an actual balanced lunch the other day – although it wasn’t so much cooking as it was heating stuff up. Baked this potato-crusted cod stuff, nuked some frozen broccoli & cheese, and nuked this 5-Grain stuff that I got a while ago…
It was good.
Closeup of yummy 5-Grain stuff: Wheatberries, black rice, brown rice, pearl barley, and soybeans.
Put the leftovers into my cute compartmentalized storage container that I love – why is this so cute? It’s like primary school lunch trays. I love it.
So I had that for lunch the next day.
I made some yummy Shirataki noodles over the weekend, too – used Morningstar veggie crumbles, tofu, edamame (soy overload, sheesh) and an improvised brown/soy sauce. It was good.
Today went out for sushi for lunch – yum. Then I went to Ulta and bought a bunch of crap that I don’t probably need. I want a new perfume for the summer – I’ve been a Pink Sugar girl for the past few years but I want something else. I sampled a ton of perfumes and none of them struck me as “me”. Any suggestions?
Okay, I don’t necessarily believe in that post title, but I’m watching (audio and video warning) that exact scene on TV right now from (more audio and video: trailer) the amazing 80s movie, Wall Street. I think of this scene a lot, in all kinds of contexts. It’s funny how this movie is pointed to as portraying the excesses of the 1980s, but it seems more timely than ever watching it today.
Enough of that.
Lovely day here. It was nice and rainy and actually somewhat not-hot, which is amazing for this time of year in Arizona. I left the doors and windows open last night and woke to the sound and smell of the rain filling the house…was so nice that I decided to stay in bed and enjoy it, so slept in a bit. 🙂
Finally got up and went to brunch with a friend. I was kind of rushing and it was raining so I put on a boring outfit:
Black polo shirt over a long-sleeved white t-shirt, skinny jeans and my skull wellies…which I love.
Now that I look at that photo, not sure I should wear anything like this again. I look like I have big thighs, and I don’t.
Had an egg white omelet with turkey, bacon, avocado, and tomatoes, with lots of fruit. It was good. We went to the mall after that and I bought a really cute dress at Banana Republic on huge markdown. Wandered by the movie theatre on the way to Forever 21 and randomly decided to go see the new Terminator movie.
So we went. I actually have seen the original Terminator and Terminator II (shocking, honestly, for me to have seen movies) and liked them, plus my friend mentioned that Christian Bale was in it so I figured it was worth seeing (because, y’know, he’s hot, lol). It was good. It stressed me out a little, actually, it was like a 2-hour onslaught of fighting and violence, but it was good. And it turns out that Sam Worthington is a whole lot hotter than Bale.
We were talking about it on the drive home and I said something about Helena Bonham-Carter’s character and my friend was like, “wait, who?” and I realized he had no idea who she was. I explained which character she played and he was like stunned (because I never know actors/stars), “how did you know who she is/her name?”
Aw, because I’ve adored her and her edgy spirit since I encountered her first when she and I were both in our teens. She was the radiant star of the remarkable movie A Room With A View which was very influential in my life as a teen. She was even more influential upon me, though, in a subsequent magazine spread where she appeared looking so hot-disheveled-defiant:
Seriously, this image has made a lasting impact on me. It’s over 20 years ago that I saw this photo and I think of it, I dunno, like, often. She’s super cool, even to this day.
Work was fine – made money. Wine class tonight was outta hand, lol – super fun.
Had a semi-relaxed last few days…finished school on Friday morning and so decided to take a few days off to play before getting into summer projects. 🙂
Let’s see…Friday I presented my final project in the morning, then went to Oregano’s with a friend for lunch. Work was INSANE on Friday night – the restaurant where I work is always busy when it’s the weekend of the university’s graduation. I kicked ass, though, and made money.
Saturday…I did…something. I have no idea anymore, lol. More busy-busy-restaurant that night and then we went to the bar after for a bit. A couple of really cute 23-year-old guys were hitting on me at the bar and saying how beautiful I am. They were pretty nice kids, one just back from Iraq. It was a little ego boost. A friend told them that I was 26 and they thought I looked younger, haha. That was nice.
Yesterday – Sunday – was nice. For some reason I woke up at 4:00 am and could not get back to sleep, so I got up and watched Field of Dreams on TV. Had forgotten how sweet that film is.
Went to lunch at that healthy Japanese place again…had some nice noodles with veggies. Then watched the end of Sideways, which we had started watching a few weeks ago and not finished. It was…not at all what I expected. Some funny moments, though.
Then I came home and called the roadside assistance service because somehow overnight one of my tires on my car had gone completely flat – they were so fast and nice. Nail in the tire, of course. Seems like that’s what it always is.
I went to bed early as I’d had no sleep the night before. Took an Ambien and it…helped. I swear, I’m like immune to sleep.
Today I got up nice and early and went for a pedicure. Threw on this dress that I got at Target last year and haven’t worn much for some reason…it’s not crazy flattering but it sure is comfy. I suspect I’ll be wearing it a lot this summer.
I tried to get a photo of my newish Payless silver sandals but it came out blurry…
And as I was snapping shots, someone decided to join me…look at the lower right-hand corner:
SO cute. 😀
You can also see in that last pic the mess of my house…which is what I spent the rest of the day doing – cleaning! And now it is so lovely and neat and washed and clean and good-smelling. Love it.
Oh, I stopped on the way home from my pedi and got a taco salad from Taco Bell…I used to love these and haven’t had one since probably the early 90s, seriously. Some calorie count nonsense back in the day put me off of them, but today it was what I was craving and it was good!
And filling. I had a ton of red grapes and cherries for dinner and I think I’m done for the day.
I’m watching the film version of Margaret Atwood’s remarkable book, The Handmaid’s Tale on TV right now (trailer). Everyone should read this book. It was mind-opening to me when I read it in the very early 1990s, and has popped into my head as relevant many, many times since then.
Then I started my final project in my Nutritional Anthropology class which I’ve known about since January and is due at 8:00 am tomorrow…and of course I started today at about 3:00 pm, LOL. To be fair, it’s an easy project and I had most of it done in my head, hehe – but actually it turned out well.
Work was, bleh, kind of stupid again. It’ll do for the meantime. Hopefully longer.
Ok, off to bed.
One of my favorite lines from one of my favorite books, The Hotel New Hampshire by John Irving.
Went out to breakfast. I had an egg white omelet with turkey, bacon, Swiss cheese, avocado, and a big bowl of fruit on the side. It was yum.
Came home and crashed on the sofa for a while. Did some schoolwork stuff and played around online after that. Ate some Trader Joe’s breaded eggplant with roasted veggies, pasta sauce, and mozzarellla before work – I’m seriously so obsessed with the TJ’s eggplant, you should all buy it.
Work was fine, whatever. It’s stupid how stupid our new manager is but I’m trying not to care – this is not my primary concern, school is. I made a decent amount of money and got done early. Now I’m home and watching the last two episodes of America’s Next Top Model – fell asleep before I saw it last night. I still love Analeigh.
Slept semi-decently last night. Woke early and went to breakfast with a friend. I’m in love with this fruit & cottage cheese plate at a place we’ve been going to a lot lately. Usually I love eggs and egg-white omelets but since it’s gotten hot I’m totally into fruit and salads.
Came home and spent the day doing some data entry/schoolwork stuff. I randomly turned on the TV to a true crime thing on the Oxygen network and after that they started showing a marathon of America’s Next Top Model (Cycle 11) and I watched a little, thinking, “well, this will be super-stupid and annoying”…and I was somewhat right but, uh, I ended up watching the entire season while working on the computer all day. Actually, I’m finishing watching the last few episodes now because I had to go to work so I DVR’d them. It was a lot more compelling than I thought it would be – and Tyra is just as annoying as everyone says she is, lol. The girls are pretty nice.
I looked at Wikipedia so I know already who “wins” but I love Elina’s look so much – and I love Analeigh overall. I want Analeigh’s hair. I’m having a hair obsession lately – Rachel Zoe’s, and now Analeigh’s. Both are similar to mine, I just want to style mine a bit more like theirs.
Okay, enough ogling over those who are genetically gifted/freakish, LOL. So also while I was home doing work on the computer and watching TV, I made some lovely veggie chili on the stovetop. I had all the ingredients: veg “ground round”, frozen corn, two cans of black beans, chopped up onions, bell peppers, and garlic; loads of spices. It came out good. Here’s a bowl straight from the pot:
Ridiculously delicious, too!
The postman came with this ring today – this is a funny story. About a week ago, a guest at my restaurant left a ring behind and I LOVED it so much that I wore it around on my hand for the next hour…then the guest called and was like, “I left my ring there.” Dammit.
So I went home and looked for this ring online – turns out it was worn on Sex & The City (which I’ve never seen) but I found a cheap knockoff…and it got here today. Love it:
I love that it’s a two-finger ring:
Went out after work for some margaritas – well, only one. 🙂
Good weekend. Busy, played some, worked some, the usual.
Today I was off. Went to an appointment, came home and took a nap. Went out in the afternoon running errands with, then to an early dinner at Pei Wei. I’m not generally a big fan of Pei Wei but their Honey Shrimp are pretty good. Came home and lazed around a little, then went out to meet a friend at the bar. It was fun. She and I caught up a bit and then she left and I hung out with my work friends who were there. I ended up throwing this on…which I think is the same thing I was wearing last time I posted here except with new boots that I got in the mail today:
It was super fun. I’m super tired, though, and had planned to go to bed early tonight…and here it is almost 2:00 am.
This weekend I put my jewelry into my new jewelry armoire – it’s so nice and organized now:
Exhausted. Night. 🙂
Sitting here watching Ab Fab again. Good god, this show makes me laugh so much. 😀
Today was good.
I was wearing this:
Tunic from WalMart, my favorite leggings from Shape FX, and boots recently thrifted. A friend gave me the scarf wrapped around my purse-handle for my birthday – she wrapped it around my gift. I wore a stack of funky bangles:
And so decided to pick up the turquoise in the one bracelet with a pair of Hawaiian earrings I haven’t ever worn much…
Went to WalMart after my appointment as I needed some things – man, I spend a lot of time at WalMart. On the way home I decided to splurge on some fatty Mexican food – went to the drive-thru 24 hour place and got these crazy Nachos Supremo (or something). They were outrageous. Look at this!
I ate them all – super yummy, but honestly a bit much. SO excessive, I felt ill afterward. Did some data entry and then took a lovely nap.
Work was…crazy! The restaurant business is so bloody unpredictable. Ran my arse off tonight, it was just nuts. Afterward we had our second wine class in the process of learning what we need to know to pass the sommelier certification test. It was super fun.
Wow, this became a ridiculously long entry – read at your own peril, LOL.
Yesterday was my birthday! 😀 ‘Twas a fun and mellow day. I never take my day off work, but it happened to fall on my day off from school and work this year, which was nice.
Slept in a little in the morning. Got up and went to lunch with a friend at this resort where I used to work…and loved working but left when I went back to school. We sat out at the grill by the pool and both ate panini made with pork, ham, pickle, cheese, and mustard. It was yummy. It was kind of cloudy and windy which made it not too hot. Nice.
Dragged my friend into the employee area afterward so I could say hi to some of my favorite people that I used to work with there – it was so nice to see them. I need to go visit again this summer when I can sit and talk to them more.
Came home and took a little snooze on my sofa with my wonderful cat. Woke and went to my parents’ house for birthday dinner with them. It was fun to hang out with them. They gave me a jewelry armoire as my gift – I have been wanting one for a while and looked all over town a few weeks ago looking at them, but finally decided the best one for my needs would be this over-the-door one that is built into a full-length mirror.
My parents are always looking for ideas for me when it comes to gifts, so I told them about this one and they got it for me. I love it. It’s going to help me organize my jewelry so much more effectively.
Met friends at the bar after that and it was fun. One friend gave me a book that I’ve never heard of before but that sounds exactly like something I would pick out for myself: Three Cups of Tea.
She also gave me this adorable bunch of earrings, which is funny because, as I told her, I’ve been looking for cute leaf earrings and she didn’t even know that!
Then the bartender (who we know, a super-nice lady) was like, “come out here, I’ve got a birthday gift for you.” So I’m following her out to the parking lot and she introduces me to this old guy who had been sitting near us at the bar, and explains that he’s an importer/exporter and just returned from Indonesia and wants to give me a birthday gift. And I’m like, “no, no, no, this is totally unnecessary” and she’s whispering in my ear, “don’t worry, he’s a multi-millionaire and completely harmless, not a creeper at all.” LOL. So I trust her and he’s pulling all of this jewelry out of this safe in his truck. Pretty stuff, most of it real orchids that have been somehow lacquered and are nice but not my style at all, and finally he gets out these actual orchid leaves that are gold-plated.
So I was still saying, “this is way too much,” but honestly I have a pretty good lech-radar and he just seemed like a sweet old guy, so I accepted them.
I only stayed until 11:30 and had 1.5 drinks – I was sleepy but it was fun and people showed up whom I didn’t expect. Fun night. I was wearing (all day) black wide-legged corduroys with a cute black top that has layered floofy sleeves and silver ankle boots…but I didn’t take photos.
So, today – woke up, went to class. It was 100 degrees today so I finally gave in and put on shorts and a summer top. My legs are ridiculously pale. I need to get some self-tanner on them, stat!
I’m holding my keys and Blackberry as I’m literally walking out the door to class. I moved my full-length mirror to my front hall/shoe closet now that I have the jewelry armoire/mirror hanging on my bedroom door. The light is actually better now for photos. Not the sexiest outfit ever but, honestly, once it hits 100 degrees here (and this will last for 5 months), my fashion tends to go downhill. Too. Bloody. Hot.
Went to class, and then met a friend for breakfast at a cute place. It was good.
As it got hot in the afternoon, I just couldn’t deal anymore. Put on a cotton nightgown, turned the a/c on, and crawled into my cool cotton-sheeted bed for a two hour nap. It was so delightful.
Went to work – weirdness. So dead at first and then got busy right before closing time. At least I made money.
Thanks for reading.
Lazy, lazy, relaxed day off. Woke up kind of early, like 7:30, and sat around drinking coffee. I wanted to go thrift store shopping and although a friend of mine thought he hated thrift stores, he got curious enough to go with me. He still hates them, lol. Ended up only going to one (my favorite one) but before he dragged me out of there I got some good books and a brand new pair of harness boots in exactly the color and style I’ve been wanting…for $9:
Then we went to a Japanese restaurant that I’d never been to before, Yoshimatsu and it was so, so good. And cheap! Tons of choices. I told my friend, “I want to come back here again. A lot.” I had a veggie curry with brown rice that was just perfect. Next time I’m getting soba noodles…or soup…or something else from all the delicious-looking choices. Friend had a chicken katsu bento box that looked good, too…if I liked chicken. Bento boxes are just so cute and organized, very appealing.
Because of my lack of interesting photos, I’ll post here a 3-photo series of my cat sleeping, waking, and awake. 🙂
